Nothing new

By that, I'm in no way saying this is a bad track. It is sure to get the bodies moving on the floor.

The introduction reminds me more of rave than of house. The song itself is quite repetitive and has a few techno elements in it, though it is definitely a house track. I love the synths you've used, gives a wavy feel that really follows the bass track of the song, especially like the buildups at set points, at transitions.

Only problem I have is that it's really not too new. Some might say house music often sounds similar, but there are a lot of things you can mess with.

The drums you used were also of great quality, as was the outro and the ending, not just fading out but actually cutting it off after tuning it down.

it's a nice piece, it's definitely something to be played at clubs, but it wouldn't go into any of my mixes.

DJDela responds:

Yes, I have to agree that it gets repetitive, and the build up at the beginning is maybe long and boring.

I will try experimenting more in the future, so my songs don't sound like all of the other mainstream music.

Thank you, your review is great, and really means a lot to me.

Not bad

Definitely not a bad track. I like the surreal ambience of the track,.

The thing that goes through the entire track is the sharp synth that follows the same melody. It's absolutely a good line, like how you've gone about it. The different instruments you put on top, something that sounds like the organ-sounding instrument does fit quite well. The part at about 2 minutes also feels pretty good.

I'm not sure what drum samples you used, but they felt a bit flat when compared to the rest of the sounds, at least the snare drum and hi-hat(?). Bass sounds very good.

I'm not sure whether you misplaced it as a loop, but there is a gap at the end of the song which makes the loop sound off a bit. Might want to fix that.

Xenophaje responds:

I think this song has more of my own unique spin on it then anything else I've composed. (the organ especially)

I made this in FL Studio, the drums - they are apart of the set of minor plugins that appear when you open FL Studio (10) - at that they are very basic.

The gap, I still can't figure out how to get that to stop. I tried cutting the remainder and that takes away the 1-2 second silence at the end.
I'll see what I can do to fix it...

Sounds... sour?

Again, the language barrier ruins it all for me.

It's not a bad trippmix. It souds like Band on the Run on acid, that's for sure. However, I don't really like what you did with the vocals. It made the entire song sound absolutely horrible. It doesn't sound like it's on acid any longer, it just sounds like the vocalist is in his pre-teens.

Another thing is that I don't really like the synths you used for the melody, it's a bit too sharp at times.

Yes I know I suck at singing. I cant stay in those damn high notes for shit. Im sorry that ruined the song for you.

Almost perfect

I see you went for a somewhat soothing feel with this. You did pretty well.

There's not much I have to complain about, but there are some big issues.

First off, it's a bit too loud. Ambient songs should not be in-your-face, they should be in the back of your head, calming you down (or freaking you out, whichever feeling you want to bring out). And by loud I don't only mean I had my speakers on too high, but the sounds you've used should be a bit toned down.

The second issue is that towards the end, it seems a bit cluttered and too energetic. Again, considering you went for the soothing feel of a seashore, it should be rather relaxed. Try not to use the synthetic sound you've used to create sort of a rhythm, but use something else. Samples of bongos, or something like that. And just tone it down. Focus on making it relaxing.

Seeing as it's a WiP I won't criticize on the ending, though it ends abruptly.

Must be the hardest boss I've ever encountered

What an amazing piece. I'm seriously stunned. And this is your first? Wow. I can't wait to see what your tenth will be. And those between.

The song really has it all. The menacing themes, the drum-like effects, the great build-up and the very good backing with a bassline. The melody is dramatic, and the entire thing actually sounds somewhat symphonic, which I have a hard time finding in most 8-Bit songs. This isn't Nintendo, this is better. It's amazing. I would actually like to hear a version of this that isn't 8-bit. It could sound absolutely amazing, if you managed to somehow compose this for an orchestra.

Great stuff. Absolutely great.

Psil0 responds:

I have full idea of what the actual version will sound like. It's just as of now I can't do anything to make the full version. But when I do, I'll definitely notify you. And the last section is supposed to be orchestral/symphonic based.

Thanks for the review.

Ugh... FL samples.

I'm sorry, I just can't stand the FL samples.

I'm not sure whether you're using FL, but either way, the samples you used were absolutely horrible. These are guitar sounds, right? Because they sound a lot like the guitar samples from FL, which I can't stand.

And that's my main problem with the song. Another problem is that the song has little structure. It seems to be just hadcore guitar-soloing with a quite simple rhythmic section to back it up. Sure, there is some bass in the back, and another high-pitched sample following the tune, which doesn't sound too bad, but again, my main problem is the really poor sampling.

Also, it gets so repetitive too soon. Both in rhythmics and melody. You need to change it up a lot more.

your moms an fl sample

Absolutely amazing.

What an amazingly majestic piece. This is certainly a change from what I usually review. It's absolutely incredible.

You really made this entire composition all by yourself? I'm absolutely amazed. The combination of all the instruments you've used, which, as far as I can hear, is quite a lot. I really like the rhythmic section that comes in. It's not too loud and really adds to the play, though I believe it could quite easily stand by itself, without rhythmics. Then again, it would have a more mysterious feel to it, rather than majestic and awe-inspiring.

I don't really have much to say about it, other than that. I can't find anything wrong with this song. It's... amazing.

Haha, yes I did indeed do this all by myself :D *and my new über computer <3*

Thank you so very much for your great comment Soap, I'm very glad you like the track so much, :D becouse I do too ;)

I can like it.

I can't recognize a good House/Dance/Trance song when I hear it, like TPM, but I still have a good idea of what's good and what isn't. And I find this to be really good, considering the genre and what you were going for.

The best part about this song is quite possibly the rhythm. It's consistent throughout the song and keeps a very energetic feel to it all. It sure is a track that'll get people moving.

The melody is somewhat repetitive, even though it also strengthens the energetic feel of the song. It also sounds somewhat generic. I don't know, it might just be my un-trained ear to this sort of music. That, however, is all I can think of as negative. The entire song seems to do what you want it to do.

Føles jævlig rart å skrive engelsk når jeg veit du er norsk. Må si det.

Hehe, jepp :P Thanks for the great review, and sorry for the late response! ;)

Very repetitive.

Loops aren't really that easy to make. Just because they're short doesn't mean they can just be the same. This particular track is very repetitive, and it doesn't even loop very well, because of the three-second pause you added at the end. It sort of broke up the loop and made it sound like a sample being played over and over.

In general, everything about this song is VERY repetitive, as it's just the same over and over. Try to experiment more, especially with the bass, which can be a lot more groovy than this.

The song has some groove to it, which isn't too bad, but again, the break ruins the loop.

experimentg responds:

I know about the break, I'm trying to fix it...fean du er norsk du!

Pausa var ikke i den fila jeg spilte etter, så jeg aner ikke hvordan den havnet der. skal se å få det fiksa

Not so much horror

But a very majestic and somewhat eerie song. This could quite easily fit into... something a la THe Nightmare Before Christmas and Plants vs. Zombies.

It sounds a lot like the theme song to a funfair of doom. Like un-dead clowns and such. The climax felt very majestic, but the drums used were a bit generic, not the best samples.

camoshark responds:

Thanks for the review!

Yeah, it was supposed to evolve into something much darker, but I decided rather to make it eerie, yet not really scary.

Those two examples represent pretty much what I was aiming, showing that I pretty much got the hang of it!

Cheers,
Samuel Hébert

I like it when people call me bro.
