Take the blue pill

Only thing that makes this sound like something other than a track out of the Matrix is probably the flute-like sound at about 0.40, and the bassline.

I really did like it. It's very atmospherical, sounds like the music from a scene that is grand, but also sad. The strings in the back are amazing, and the steady piano on top fills in some emptier spaces. The one string that carries the melody could maybe be just a tad louder, to make it more audible. The flute sample also throws me off a tad, but it does have a somewhat video game-like feel to it.

I hadn't thought of that, it does kind of sound like the Matrix.

It's good that you like the strings. I put a lot of effort into making sure the chords worked exactly right with the main melody. I just didn't want one part to drown out the rest of the piece, resulting in the loss of all the little supporting parts.

Thanks for the review!

huh.

From the first 40-or-so seconds, I knew this was going to be an amazing track. The production value of this song amazes me, honestly.

I don't really know what J-Pop sounds like, I've never listened to it, and don't plan on, but I have seen some anime, and I guess it does somewhat reminds me. Not because of the bass, but because of the floating, soft synths used to back up the melody, along with the drums, and of course, the spiked melody.

i get this melancholic feel from the track, I'm not sure why, but I think it's an absolutely beautiful track. Any song that can bring out basically any emotion in a person (you know, apart from hate for whoever made the song), gets a star in my book.

I'm also pretty damn amazed at how you managed to keep the song so interesting. It doesn't even feel repetitive to me, even after listening through it two times. It just feels right, every single sound fits perfectly in.

I'm favoriting this, 5'ing this, 10'ing this. Love it. Songs like this makes me glad I'm in the RRC, because I'd never have found it if not.

DJ-Chilvan responds:

Thank you for reviewing! I'm glad the soft synths aided in your discernment, for I really tried to capture that 'anime' feel with them (like in the Inuyasha "My Will" theme song). My song may have captured emotion, but honestly your review has done the same. All the goals of this song I was trying to meet; it seems I have met according to your review and I am very grateful for that.

Dat Drop

Holy crap dude, I could've sworn the hair on my back raised at 00.28, as the song went silent. That drop was awesome. And I really, really don't like dubstep.

Intro sounds more like something hardstyley, but this is certainly dubstep. It might not be the most original track, but in a genre like this, I rarely get to hear anything that makes me go "Daaaamn." This one kinda did. Thanks mainly to that first drop, but also, throughout the song you managed to keep it interesting enough. Loved the vocal sample you used.

Synths are awesome, too, not only the buzzes, but the main synths as well.

Only complaint is the fade-out at the end. Not a fan of fade-outs.

Herdunculus responds:

Wow haha! That's a fairly good response considering you don't usually listen to dubstep. Yea, that weird intro was because I didn't exactly know what to do for one, so I thought, "Why don't I just do what I already know?" and that's how it is. Anyways, I appreciate the review.

Hmm

I feel the song's just a bit too random, and I don't see the originality or abstract side of it, I'm sorry.

It's hardstyle all right, sounds like the stuff my buddy loves listening to. Difference is, this sounds like all of the songs he listens to, mashed into one track. I get that you're going abstract, but this only feels like a huge mess at times.

It has hardstyle elements, it has a good thump going throughout the entire track, I did kinda like the barking you threw in there, you should defo use that in another track.

Thanks for the review.

This isn't Hardstyle at all, it's UK Hardcore.

Pretty amazing.

This is really a gem. This really feels like a forest. With secrets. In a fantasy game. I'd play to this.

Very well composed, and really gives off an amazing atmosphere that sets the mood for the situation. I believe it was a harp you used, it played very well. Only problem I have is that it's a tad shallow. It lacks something to back it up, something at the bottom. Not necessarily base, but some soft tones to fill in the void this song has now.

I'd get down to this.

Holy house, batman, this song is dirty!

I can easily hear the Benassi influence, weird thing is, I like this track, while I really don't like Benassi.

The bass synth is incredibly cool, easy to follow, simple and not repetitive, and it brings the song forwards with ease.

Intro might be a bit cheesy, but I like it either way. The mixing you've done on this track is great, honestly. The wooshing sounds fit in very well.

I'd download it, but seeing as it's just a WIP, I wont, but I'd love to hear the finished piece, so pitch me a PM when it's out. I want that on my list of music I dig to.
