Menu theme

I believe this could go well as a menu theme, but I'm not sure why you decided to add on a fast-paced synth towards the end. Without that it would be a good loop and it could've worked very well on a menu screen.

Those five or so seconds somewhat ruined that feel, though, which I find somewhat sad.

Hi Soupbubble,

I've just started to play around with short loops...trying to toss one out a day within 15 minutes or so, so it's just a progress; your feedback is helpful :) Thanks

I like how this isn't just your average, dull, dubbed-down wobbled-up dubstep. It's got elements of other genres as well, all cluttered together. And it works out pretty well.

The production isn't the best, but that is honestly the only thing I can think of that is bad. Maybe the BPM could be just a tad lower, always nice with low BPM in dubstep. The buzzed synths are fucking amazing in this piece. The rhythmics are consistent and helps bringing the track forth, but as I said, BPM could be just a tad lower during drops/after drops, and in general.

Other than that, just experiment more with it. Don't make bland shit, make stuff like this and throw in whatever you can think of to the mix.

My next dubstep song will have a folk rock style banjo solo. :P

Completely forgot I had this playing for about 15 minutes. That's usually a good thing.

At first, I have to say, I was really skeptic. The ambience at the absolute start was really nice, but the high-pitched xylophone with the even higher pitched synth coming in sort of ruined that for me. And I still think both sounds are a bit too loud as is. The drums are a bit bland, especially the... I don't know the English word for it. Clap? Either way, that sample isn't the best. The kick isn't too bad, but you should look into finding some better samples.

It's not quite calm. That is, it is calm, but it's not as calm as I would like, mainly due to the somewhat cheerful xylophones.

Try some more variation in the rhythmics department, you can do lots of fun stuff with that in ambient tracks. Tone down the synth a tad, the bells should be fine, but the synths are very high pitched.

Funtastic

It's always nice to hear some upbeat tracks, but this could do with some work.

For one, it's a bit too random for my taste. There's nothing I can really hold on to throughout the track. Sure there are the synths that carry the melody, and the beat, but that's about it. The different parts don't fit too well together, though the transitions aren't too bad.

The rhythmics aren't bad, though the kick isn't the best sample I've heard, I'd love to hear proper samples for the kick, which is almost always the most prominent part of a drumset.

Interesting

I believe you could've put this in the ambient genre.

It reminds me of some of the glitchier dark jazz I've heard. It's got the ambience for the dark jazz, and the glitchiness in form of quite chaotic drums. The drums, I really like. It might be chaotic, but it's never random, and it suits the track just fine.

Wasn't a big fan of the intro, sounded a bit muffled which didn't really go with the rest of the song after the buildup, the really clear piano and the drums.

It's something new, which I always like to hear. Somewhat experimental. It needs finetuning, but you should make some more tracks in this style.

DonCarrera responds:

Odd, I spent even more time on this than my Glitchy material :/, but an 8 means its off to a pretty good start. The intro in particular was the bit that resembles the track that inspired this, "Green Crumble" the most (seriously, check it out), so I think foregoing influences and just doing my own thing may be the better course of action from now on in terms of sound.

Banger indeed

Really like this one, in spite of the somewhat slow and dragged-out intro, it really delivers once it first kicks in.

The bass is steady throughout, and drives the song forward during the parts where little happens. The rhythmics samples in general are pretty good, I really like your buildups as well, in particular around the 2-minute mark. Really like the beat and synths used in this segment.

Simplistic

I haven't really heard the original properly (never was too into Zelda), but as a standalone track, this is pretty simple and pretty good.

If you only listen to the strings that play the melody, it's a bit repetitive, but there are the strings playing the bass and at times the track just seems to blow up with more sounds, it's really amazing.

It gives off that mysterious forest feel that I believe you were going for.

I'd still like to see it fleshed out. It might've been this simplistic back when it first was made, but that's no reason for you not to flesh it out and try to modernize the track a bit while remixing it. It's a bit shallow, apart from the bass and melodic strings there's not much going on.

Horsenwelles responds:

in the original it was ridiculously difficult to derive a melody from it because of its ambient design. with a 7 from an incredibly criticized review, i cant believe what you would give the original ;)

thanks though :)

Interesting

Not sure how big a fan I am of this electronic jazz style, but the composition is pretty impressive.

My main issue is the midi-like sounds, I've never been a fan of it and I really don't think the sound fits for something experimental and jazzy like this, it just gives it a video game feel.

The rhythmics are very nice, they're not too loud and never really push the song forward, they just flow along. Track also loops very well.

camoshark responds:

Hi Soapbubble, glad to see you're back in the RRC!

This is actually NOT electrojazz, everything you hear is made from actual instruments. The two comping instruments are a modulated guitar and a B3 organ.

As for MIDI instruments, I'm not sure I get, since it's all high quality recordings... maybe it isn't humanised enough...

Anyways, glad you enjoyed nontheless, I'll do my best in the future to humanise so you'll be ok with it!

Cheers

Not bad

Writer's block sucks, I can imagine it being equally annoying to an audio artist.

Fun composition on this one, quite the cheerful track, which makes me feel the buzzed synth doesn't fit perfectly in. A buzzed synth in itself isn't bad, just this particular one should be switched out with something that sounds a bit less heavy.

Love the addition of piano, and the fact that the song as a whole just broadens towards the end and becomes a more fleshed-out track. Too bad it's so short.

MeteorManMike responds:

My problem is finding the right instrument to use, b/c nothing sounds like what I'm thinking of.

The buzzed synth you hear is the only one that I think works as a good bass. All the others sound kind of hollow/strange. I'm trying for a blend of jazz/techno.

The piano you hear here is absolutely all I can think of for this one. That's what's bugging me.

Thanks for the review!

Bit more bass

Not a bad DnB track, but could do with some work.

it has a nice structure, absolutely, and the synths used are very good, but it really lacks one of, IMO, th emost important parts about DnB tracks, that extra oomph. I'm talking bass line and bass drums. The drum synths you are using aren't the best, might want to look at getting better, and I'd love to hear more of a bassline, apart from the buzzing synth.

Really liked that you had a part with strings and a flute, threw me off at the beginning, but the way you transitioned back into the track was just brilliant.

Kieda responds:

The drums are just the VEC drums, with the best mixing and stuff I could possibly do (which ain't a lot).

I am not a pro in basslines, but I'll try to create better bass and basslines in future songs (:

I like it when people call me bro.
