Love how such a simple concept can be so fun. Found myself replaying over and over trying to get the perfect run on each level. Minus points for being so short though, it's more of a demo than a full game.

Fufer responds:

A full game will release on Steam with more abilities, attacks and enemies later this year ;)
You can wishlist it on Steam on the meantime!

This is a great first step into game making imo. It looks sleek, and it works, which is more than can be said for most peoples' first attempts.

Still, I'd say it barely qualifies as a game. It's a very simple shooter game, and it gets really repetitive really fast. I got to level 3 and realized it was all just the same grind. Kill enemies, get ammo, get super weapon for a short time, repeat. Maybe add some sort of level system that's separated from this arcade style system you've got now? Or switching out the "ammo" system for a currency system to be used on various upgrades like bullet damage, reload time, variety of enemies etc

lca responds:

tk you so much for your feedback!!! i will continue to work on this game, this is my sandbox game, when i study GMS! :D

I think the only thing I could possibly complain about is that the audio quality and levels are a bit off at times, but that's a really really minor thing to complain about. It's a fun choose-your-own-adventure kinda game, except there's a lot more failing than in a regular game of the sort. It's funny, it's good, it's great!

PuffballsUnited responds:

Yeah the audio is what causes the most problems when the size gets really big. But I know I could use some work with balancing as well.

All right, played through the entire game to get all the achievements. I like the style, I like the sound, and I enjoyed... most of the game. I had to restart once because I messed up with my early plays and ended up never having enough money to keep my heroes alive, but that's my own bad.

In terms of the bonuses you get, I'd rather see these being permanent bonuses, but given that there's not real prestige system I understand that it might've made the game too easy. The way it is now, assuming you have a decent start, the game is fairly easy and fairly short.

Chaz responds:

Thanks for the review. The bonuses are permanent, though.

It's not the most original game, but it's not a bad version. I'm not a big fan of the way the game looks. I don't mind simplicity in simple games, I think that's perfect, but the choice of very dull colors made this one look way boring.

It really really annoyed me that you could only move in four directions, and the hitboxes werent the best for the player or the enemies. Level design was fine, I didn't get too far in before I got too frustrated to continue, but from what I saw it was all right. The music, I'm glad you had a mute button, because it got too much too soon. Maybe add in multiple tracks, if that's possible, for some variation.

HodgeGames responds:

Thanks for the feedback. I apologize that you are not capable of moving in more than 4 directions. Honestly, it is like that to increase the difficulty of the game. And the hit boxes? I didn't see a problem with them. I'm sorry you did. Also, the music is limited to keep the file size low so that you can enjoy the game sooner. You know, to decrease web load time.
Thanks again.

So simple, so funny. Absolutely love it, just like I love every single game in this series. Moar!

PuffballsUnited responds:

I'm glad!

Storywise this is a pretty good game. I quite enjoyed it, and it seems you've put more time into it than most people care for. Newgrounds is a sucker for gameplay.

Graphically speaking there's not that much to say, the animations are all right and smooth, and the sprites are all good. The SFX sometimes feel a bit out of place or a bit too loud, not very in-tune with the 8-bit tunes and the sprites.

The fighting system was quite nice too, turn-based combined with quicktime is nice and adds a bit more to it. The fact that you control both Mario and Luigi while in "open" world is also quite nice. In general there seems to be quite a bit of fun gameplay mechanics that I am not too used to.

The keyboard layout is a bit odd, I'm not quite sure why you'd choose Z and X.

Uhhh, another thing I'm not too big of a fan of is the backdrops. For instance in the start, after leaving the house, the backdrop is Peach's castle. It looks very out of place. Hard to explain, but it doesn't really look like it's in the background, but rather just a cardboard cut-out or something like that.

To sum it up, I like some of the gameplay mechanics, and I like the idea. The story is well thought through and generally quite good. Graphics could do with some work, and the game is a bit slow-paced IMO.

Muja responds:

Thank you, man, for taking a bit of your time to answer me here!
And it's a quite detailed review, too, that's great. Especially since I appreciate constructive criticism!
I'll remember your suggestions for my next version!

Thanx again!

Ahhh, funny quizes. Joy!

I did get 50 points on this last attempt, but it took me a couple tries. Considering it's a possible quiz, it can be pretty tricky at points. Still lacking that last Secret Medal though. It's either bugged or I haven't found out how to get it yet.

Little-Rena responds:

Which one? They are all unlockable, I have them all.

Love the music.

I kinda like these rather simple quizzes. Well, I'm not saying this is an easy quiz, it's probably really really difficult if you don't really pay that much attention to the international news scene.

The music was really comfortable to listen to. I would not mind a pause button though, I figure all games hould have one no matter what. Graphically it's not a masterpiece, but the fact that some of these answers are so... stupid? that they make me giggle is a huge plus in my book.

Little-Rena responds:

I made some of them stupid on purpose, I could have given more realistic answers but there are dumb answers on multiple choice University exams so I carried on the tradition here!

It's a cute little game, but it's not much more than that. The graphics are real simple, as is the concept of the game. Stay warm, and get from A to B. Instead of having one separate Help page at the beginning though, I'd suggest having something more similar to a tutorial level, or a little hint when a new obstacle appears, like water. A simple "water will freeze you instantly" or something like that.

The difficulty curve is pretty good, the game does get progressively more difficult. I don't like the fact that as you move from one screen to another you'll sometimes end up running right into the water. Takes you a bit by surprise. If you could make this a 2D scroller I think that'd help out.

Vadinci responds:

Thanks for your review :) that's quite some feedback for such a small game!

Personally I don't really like tutorials, and I don't think it would have fit with this game. However I agree that I could have introduced every aspect of the game a bit more subtle.

as for the instant death after a screen transition, after playtesting a few times it was not the greatest thing to add. My map editor wouldn't easily let me edit maps though and I wanted to have this finished on time.

I like it when people call me bro.
