Far too simple

This game has some potential, but it's far too simple.

It took me probably less than five minutes to try all of the different options to see what the results were, which I find to be a bit too little.

The graphics are fairly simple. The different pictures for the different actions I can appreciate, but there's no animation, really. Some simple animations, like a win or a lose animation could be nice to have, or if you want to go further animations for all the buttons. And if you want to go even further, add different hills. Just for the fun of it, the looks of it. Just like changing the music.

About the music, it was good. I liked that you gave us the option to not only chose between the two tracks, but mute if we don't want any music. That's something many lack.

Other than that, I don't have much to say. Look at my notes above and improve the flash as you see fit. Good luck!

Win and lose animation, more hills. Music was good, longer. Thanks!

Not bad, somewhat unpolished

A really good flash game, with a somewhat steep difficulty curve and a fun story.

Graphics
Pretty fun drawings. I loved the background animations, though I could've wanted for them to move slightly as I moved. Right now it just looks like an image in the back. The animations on the main character were maybe a bit too subtle and a bit slow, but I'm glad they were there, because they added a bit to the immersiveness. Sorta. The enemies were well-drawn, from seagulls to samurais, but I have to say that the level designs were maybe a bit too simple. Though I didn't get far, even after multiple attempts.

Gameplay
Very entertaining. The controls are simple, but the difficulty curve might be a bit too high. The jumps aren't too good, so beating the samurai-guy can be a challenge that many will get pissed at. I'm not saying this game gets a lower score because it's difficult, I'm saying it does because it gets too hard, too soon. All games need a curve, and that curve can not be too steep, if you understand. (Yes, I did pass the samurai guy with the oil barrels)

Audio
Very good choice of music. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The sound effects were good, I have to say Fro did a pretty good job on the voicing. Funny and good, both at once.

All in all, a game I can easily enjoy, though there are some minor flaws that can be corrected.

Mmm... good... yes the game its difficult at the beggining... but believe me its just practice, i can win it without loosing a life (whole game) (no cheats, there arent anyway... to lazy to program them lol)

"Audio"

Quite bland

I've always enjoyed scrabble, and I can appreciate this game, but it just seems a bit too simple for me.

The graphics were very simple, and okay. The board looked just fine, and the overall feel to it was very fitting. Except for the fact that everything was a bit simple, especially the random buttons and player names.

What annoyed me the most was that the letters didn't snap to their squares. That little thing could've improved a lot. I liked the addition of the dictionary, especially seeing as English is my second language, I'd need something like that. Would've been great if you could somehow have a score counter on the screen as well, because it could easily become tedious to have to count points, especially when you're not too familiar with the points system.

About that, you might also want to add rules/help/instructions so people can find out how to play, if they don't already know.

Audio was really dull. Could use some SFX when letters snapped to their boxes, if you added that, or some rustling sounds when you got new letters. The music has to go. Replace it with three songs, so the player can decide. Nothing techno or trance to a game like this. Think orchestral, or ambient.

With some adjustments, this could easily be a very good and very fun game.

Far too simple

I didn't find this amusing nor entertaining.

Dress-up games are second to stick movies on NG. They're really simple to make, so everyone that's looking into AS does them, pretty much. They're rarely original or well-made, even.

Graphically, this isn't the worst I've seen. THat said, it's not very good either. The entire thing looks very, very simple. It looks somewhat shabbily done, with plain colours, no shading, and simply using the brush and fill tools. The least you could do was put clothes on one side and the character in a box or something. It'd be easier and less messy if you did that.

At least you have quite the diversity in this one. There are alot of things you can put on the character, from eyes to full suits and shoes, plus more.

Another annoying thing is the lack of sound. Add a couple of songs and let the player select which ones they want to listen to. Right now it sounds very, very quiet, which isn't a good thing at all.

Also, there's two of the aqua man dress.

Also, a menu would be nice. Just a quick "Play" and "help" button or something like that. And a couple of backgrounds I could choose between.

Ah, fuck. Didn't realize the second water suit...sadly, I can't exactly improve on this, because my computer is a bitch and deleted my Flash files...And I was eight when I made this, so I didn't even know what the fuck shading was...but thanks for the review.

Nothing special

You've done a pretty good job with the game, but it's not really that special. Nothing too new.

Graphically, it's very simple, and the animation could be a bit smoother by increasing the framerate, which wouldn't really harm anyone, except for maybe in the later levels with bombs everywhere. The explosions and gun shots are very simple, and they don't look too impressive. The ship, however, looks really neat with the 3D effect. THe background is also very simple, and the interface could've been a bit, better, if the game was better.

The gameplay is far too simple, and I was very annoyed that i couldn't go diagonally any direction. The enemies were all the same, with varying speed, and it got quite boring quite fast, especially considering I reached level 60-something in a couple minutes. A big issue in the later levels is that the health power-ups disappear as you level up, and I was never able to get one of them because I'd rank up a level so soon. I'd like to see more different enemies as the levels progress, and multiple weapons in the arsenal. This cuold set up for a somewhat better interface as well, with weapon loadout. Maybe a better health bar and a shield bar?

There's not much to say about story, but audio was okay. I missed a sound to the gunshots, because right now there's only sound when someone gets hit, which isn't enough. Also, some background music could be nice.

fallensoul289 responds:

Yeah I know, a lame idea but it was for school.

Challenging, at least.

Seeing as it's supposed to be a challenging guessing game, I guess you've accomplished that, but it still lacks in some areas.

First off, there are plenty of these "impossible quiz"-like games, but this variation, where you have to solve a puzzle, and/or just be patient and look for the password, aren't very plentiful. Therefore, this can't be said to be unoriginal.

However, it's not very entertaining, because it's not too easy to know what to do all the time. You have to write in the password, but you don't know how to go about finding it. No hints or clues at all, until you actually find it. Of course you can press the '?' button, but that's like a last resort in most games, not the first thing you do. I'm glad you made it difficult, because often people make them too easy. You just should've fleshed out the instructions a bit.

The music wasn't very fitting. Seeing as this is a quiz, you should've used some more ambient music. The one you used sounds like it was from a battle, a very heroic fight to the death or something like that, which isn't the feel I get from the game. I'm not sure there's a deeper story to it, because I didn't finish it (I haven't watched/played any other of your games so I got stuck on such levels), but if there isn't, you should probably find some other songs. Having multiple choices so people can choose, and turn it off if they want to, will also benefit you.

I somewhat enjoy how you incorporated your other flashes into this one, but the way you're almost forcing people to play your older games to win isn't a very good one. I'm not sure what else you could do, but I don't like that feeling of being forced into doing something to play this game.

It's not a bad game. Graphically, it looks pretty good. Simple background with the actual puzzle in the middle. It's nothing exciting, but it works. The puzzles seem to be well-crafted. There language isn't the best, you might want to have someone proof read it for you before you release it.

EventHorizon responds:

good review, I chose this music because the name of the game "save your life" I wanted it to be almost like a war to play this game, and the graphics are better than the other games in the series, you are absolutely right about the Language The fact I had to have it checked by someone.
thanks for the review

Quite buggy.

I don't really get it.

The animation in the beginning was awesome. I was seriously glad to see some really well-drawn clocks, and was sad when it all changed as the game started. The game levels were very poorly done, with the cropped out earth and flat, white stripes to walk on.

Audio was pretty fun, but it annoyed me that the gameplay music overlapped the menu music as you pressed the redo button.

Gameplay and story, I don't really get. I have to get to earth to kill someone for carrot, or? I don't get it. Anyway, the controls were really bad. When you jumped you suddenly popped up in the air and slowly flowed down. As you stood on moving platforms, you had to move along with them to keep from falling down. Some bugs that should be fixed. The redo button should either take you back to the beginning of the level, or you should have checkpoints. Or even a level select screen.

It was originally supposed to be a movie, and what was used in the beginning was all we had left over from the original project. We decided to convert it to a game. Thanks

Hard, short, funny.

Eh, I wouldn't say it's spam, I'd just say it's... not good.

The only thing keeping it going for me is that it's fun, and that there's at least some effort in it. The drawing of jesus is okay, put on the Last Supper painting. The whole idea of Judas trying to find out what to do with the breads and how many points you get, and using that as a sort of tutorial for the players was neat.

I didn't like the song at the audio intro. It wasn't a very good song, and very poorly recording quality. The voicing however was really good.

The gameplay was pretty horrible. Sometimes it ended soon, sometimes it took a couple seconds. I couldn't hit Jesus a single time, as he was WAY too fast.

MMM thanks a lot, yes the game wasnt really good... but thanks for not saying spam :P

The song was bad recorded but we though it was funny the lyrics..., the game wanst so good... but the idea i think its funny...

Thanks a lot for the review :D

Educative, generic and filled with typos.

It's absolutely a helpful tutorial, that it is.

First off, tutorials are often very simple and generic. This, you want to avoid. The attention span of many just isn't wide enough to sit and stare at a simple screen with text and a few screen caps. You should pimp the tutorial a bit out. I'm not telling you to add glitter and glam, just to make it look a bit prettier than simple text on a black screen.

It was also very boring to sit and watch it for the first part, as there was no music in the back. I get that this was hard to do because you would later on use buttons that would start and stop music for examples, but you should try to find some way of using music in the parts that currently are mute.

There are multiple typos that you need to fix. Not really because it's hard to understand as it is now, but because when there are this many typos, it all looks a bit... amateur-ish. You want it to look professional, so get someone to proofread it for you.

Took a five-minute break here to kill a spider, lost my trail.

Oh, yeah, the music you used was ACE. Absolutely great stuff!

Fix the problems mentioned above and you'll have a really good tutorial.

MCarsten responds:

Thanks for the great review man!

First, I didn't did this tutorial with more attention to the art, but, more to the coding to the people use, but I believe that I could be better, but I mean, just doing some layouts, or some design, not a perfect thing.

About the music during the tutorial, I throught that would be a bad idea, because, this was a tutorial from sounds, so hitting the example page, I'll need to stop the music in the exactly moment, so would be weird, stop one music to play another than restart that music.

About the grammar mistakes, yeah, I do these mistakes, because english is not my native language and I could use someone to fix for me, and I'm sure that would be better fixing it, because, as this is a tutorial, people can catch more what I mean and could be more easy to learn, if this is doing something hard to understand.

I didn't get what you mean by ACE, but if you mean the music from the tutorial examples, than thanks Steph by the awesome song.

Thanks again for the great review!
SpyS.

Good tutorial!

As with your last tutorial, this one's easily understandable. However, there are some things you should improve on.

I mentioned this in the last tutorial of yours I reviewed as well, you need to put in a mute button, and maybe a few more tracks. Right now, the music was very distracting to me.

Graphically it was okay, there weren't as many screen caps as in the last one, and screen caps are usual pretty smart to use, as it's easier to follow. Then again, this is for those that have done some flash in the past and knows their way around the software.
However, the fonts you used were horrible. One looked like Comic Sans, and the other was just a bit too flashy. The buttons were neat, but the fact that you had to hit straight on the text and that there isn't a box surrounding it made it a bit annoying. But hey, that's not too big a deal.

In conclusion, a good tutorial, seems helpful and could help me, but there were a bit too many things that just seemed to be very distracting to me.
