Interesting

I'm in love with the combination of house and disco, but I feel there's not too much focus on the disco part of this track, and it's generally not very original.

That said, it's not a bad house track. It's close to something I would download, but there's really not much new in it, the synths are pretty simple and the melody is quite simple and definitely something I've heard before. Sure enough some of the synths had a very disco/daft punk feel over it, like the ones that are playing around the 0.55 mark, I quite like this segment.

Now, the intro I liked, fading in like that just worked out, for some reason. Transitions are pretty good, and I personally think the mastering and production quality of the piece is quite good.

The ending needs some work. It just turns into quite a big mess with a quite sudden ending, and never really has a proper outro.

Odd

Personally, I'm no fan of this track. It just feels... off, to me.

The intro is really long, and I was preparing for something reminiscent of a glitchy, ambient track. The trance synths that popped completely turned that around for me, and I just feel like that somewhat clashed, the intro doesn't fit very well with the trest of the track.

I can get that this is something of a preogressive track. The composition isn't bad and the track does fill itself out to every corner, but it is quite repetitive. If you were going for a minimalistic style, that's all okay, but IMO, minimalism and trance never really fit well together.

Some variation would also be nice to hear. I listened through it twice, and it just isn't the kind of track I'd listen to twice in a row. Even when I just quickly skipped through it the third time, there was little variation between the different parts I checked out, apart from some synths joining in or geting removed. The rhythmics are very generic and not very interesting, maybe do some work on those. The samples are pretty good though, apart from the clap, which sounds somewhat cheesy.

Ending is pretty decent, though I don't think you needed to fade out, you could've just cut it off at the end.

Heh

I admit to being extremely skeptic with the fuzzed synths at the beginning of this track, was expecting some heavy dance/techno music, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Your incorporation of piano was well done, in spite of it being so repetitive. It does add quite a lot to the track, but in general, my main issue is that the piano is so damn repetitive. It's a problem because it's such a prominent part of the piece. Even though the track itself flows on well and loops just fine, the fact that the piano is just the same simple notes throughout.

As I said, it loops very well, and even as a standalone track, it works out pretty well, apart from the outro which is obviously made to make it loop well. The intro still has a good buildup.

Your synths are pretty good. I know i complained about the fuzzy synth, but like I said, it turned out to work out really well.

Add some variation, at least to the piano, which is quite vital in this piece.

Interesting

Usually people completely ruin the noise genre by just fucking around with sounds and making a complete mess, but this sure is different, and a proper attempt at making something that works well and fits the genre. Good attempt at that.

An important part of noise that is often neglected is the ambient feel and background synths/noises that just build up the tension/atmosphere/general feel of the piece, something i seriously think you did very well. It has an extremely eerie feel to it, like it would fit very well in a, not necessarily horror, but creepy style of game. A game with the same feeling of Amnesia, but put into a more modern setting, like in the FEAR series.

I like the off-key sound you've put into some of the synths, this really emphasizes the eerie nature, and I really like it. Reviewing noise has always been difficult to me, you either "have it", or you don't. Personally, I think you have it, and I'd love for you to keep working on tracks in this style. The fact that a lot of the sounds are recorded with a guitar is also quite impressive.

Maybe try to incorporate some elements of Industrial, adding an even more modern/metallic/industrialized feel to the track? Just a suggestion, could be interesting to hear the result.

FUN FACTS:

o I can hear the inspiration from the National (:
o I'd love to hear the next track, if I had a link of sorts to a place where I could hear a sample?
o This is an underscore, at sign and a dash: _@/

On a more serious, you've got a great ambience going here, and I love your use of the piano.

There's an overall great flow to the track, all parts really do fit well together, and the entire composition is very well done and soothing to the ear and mind as well.

Your rhythmics are fairly simple and fit the ambient backing instruments, as well as the deeper layers of rhythmic piano playing. The extra synth that pops in at somewhere after the 1 minute mark also fits in very well IMO, loving the reverb added, goes well with the atmospheric feel.

I don't know why, but this reminds me of the music that would play towards the end of a zombie flick, or even during the credits. There's something eerie about it, but I don't know why or what's creating that feeling for me.

A big issue for me is that there's not as much variety as there is potential for. Weird sentence, pardon the grammar :P
If this were a loop, it wouldn't be as big of an issue, but seeing as there is an intro and an ending to the track, it just feels as though it all gets a tad repetitive halfway in.

Damn

Really impressive piece of dubstep this here. Amazing remix, with some sick drops and nice wobbles.

I at first didn't find it very new or original, somewhat repetitive, but after a second listen, this is definitely not just boring and regular dubstep with the same drops and wobs throughout. The synths you used are for the most part pretty good, and your remixed version is easily on par with the original, IMO.

My main issue with this track, as is my main issue with some of your other tracks, si the bass synth. They're somewhat muddy and unrefined, a bit too heavy. Not sure if you're going for this somewhat dirtier feel to the bass, but it's not very flattering.

Well

It's not necessarily a good loop, but it just seems like something you quickly slapped together.

The main issue for me is how off-key the rhythmic synths sound compared to the bassline. It really annoyed me, and I guess this could fit in some kind of surrealistic game, but from the title, I'm assuming you're going for a "winter wonderland"-kind of feel.

Lastly, it's quite repetitive, and even though it loops okay, you can hear it's just a 30-second piece over and over. With a loop you should lose track of where the loop originally begins and starts. It's also very important not to make it annoyingly repetitive, and the lack of variation here combined with the off-key bass/rhythm synths really ruined that for me.

DahDoctow responds:

Yeah, I see your point. I'll try to make my next songs have alot more variety

Repetitive

Hard for me to review this considering how ltitle I like this MIDI sound, but I'll give it my best.

First off, sure enough it would fit to an RPG game, but you really need to switch out your synths. Even for MIDI this sounds very off, very fake, and really makes it hard for me to get that awe-like feeling i should get through absolutely epic RPG music. See if you can get your hands on a new soundset.

My biggest issue is that this feels quite repetitive. Though it varies a bit, it really just feels like more of the same throughout the entire track, and there's nothing very drastic that happens. it also fails to go out with a bang, which is something you should try to do in any track that is made to sound epic and majestic.

Lastly, you need to do some works on the rhythmics section. You should at least have MORE of them in the mix, because they're barely audible/noticable as is, and they really do play a vital part in a track like this.

CheckeredZebra responds:

Will do :3

This is one of my first times doing a huge track like this, so this kind of advice is much appreciated. Unfortunately, through this software, I -cannot- change out the soundset. It's a notation software :c I'm getting closer t o getting "Logic Pro" which is a FAR FAR FAR superior composition tool. (sound wise, at least)

And hm....failing to make itself very drastic. I'll keep that in mind.

Thanks for this, it gives me some food for thought :3

Quite epic

I don't know about the "pirate" feel. This is way too majestic and epic to be a tune for pirates. It sounds more like a ship of heroic sailors making it's way through troubled waters, IMO.

Really, really well written piece here, the composition is near flawless. The instruments you've used work alongside eachother well, especially love how you handled the strings, and the rhythmics section. Rhythmics sound not so complex, but rather grand.

The track is well varied and has, as mentioned, this overall majestic and epic feel, like the track itself is telling a tale.

Great intro and great ending to a great piece. I can only give this piece a 10, anything below is, IMO, not high enough.

Thanks for the review, I'm very glad that you enjoyed the song! I think that the majestic feel is the essence of classical music, and I hope to write more in the future :D

Eeri

This really does everything an ambient track should do, and even more.

I think what really does it for me in this piece, is the vocal samples you've used throughout the entire track. They're incomprehensible, they're not loud, and they overlap eachother to make it sound like someone in the walls are talking about you, whispering about you behind your back.

The intro builds up well, good use of the xylophone, that single tone really creeps me out. In addition you have the samples of wind, and the synth/string on top of that again. There's also the heartbeat, which strengthens the feeling of fear. I'm not too sure about the strings around 0.50. They don't seem to fit in with the overall feel of the song, and reminds me more of the music from Fable, kind of toying, not so serious, while trying to be somewhat scary.

SkyeWint responds:

Hello. Thanks for the kind words, the single tone of the bell was meant to be blowing in the background, simply "there". I think it worked the best, aside from the wind. The pizzicato around 0:50 is a tad weak, I admit, but I'm not sure about the not-serious-ness of them. Even if they're toying though, what do you mean by that? Are they toying with the creepy atmosphere, with you? Are they just playing around, period?

Glad you enjoyed it overall though, thank you for the review.

I like it when people call me bro.
