A great overall feel

What makes this song is absolutely the feel. The ambient background sound that goes on throughout the whole song really sets the mood and feel for the entire 4 minutes and 23 seconds of the song.

I didn't really like the sound of the instrument used for the melody, but that's just personal taste. It reminded me of one of those drums that look like trash cans that I connect to stereotypical Caribbean music.

Still, when combined with the background synths, it really worked out. Totally removed any feel of Caribbean drummers. Speaking of drums, I really liked your use of drums in the song. Not too hard to follow, and catchy, sounding well.

One thing I really would love to see more of, would have to be variety, because there's not too much of it here. Sure, there are some difference after bridges, but in general, it's pretty much the same.

A good track that could use a little bit more variety. Serenity indeed.

KroweMusic responds:

Yeah...I agree that there should be more variety, but I wanted to keep the trance-y feel that it currently has.

Thanks for the review!

Oh, I love that song!

I was certain I was listening to Mansell, but seeing that you didn't copy it, then I just have to say that I'm in awe. In our day and age, everything sounds like something, and the kind of music you went for here would eventually end up sounding like something. The fact that it sounds like Lux Aeterna (Requiem) is not a bad thing at all.

I didn't know what to expect when I saw it requested. The title sounds more like something Britney could make, and I didn't expect this at all. It might be because I've head this song (and so may remixes) set to epic battle scenes, with slow motion camera and bare-fisted fighting.

It doesn't sound like an orchestra, mainly because it sounds a little thin, like there are few people playing it. If you could simply add more to it, more bass or in general, more sound, that would make it even more epic.

Great track.

Heh, at least :P. I asked Darklight17 why he made it sound so much like Lux Aeterna, but he just said he heard it so many times in YouTube videos that he found it impossible to make his melody not sound at least slightly like Lux Aeterna's.

Yeah, you're not the first to say it reminds you of an epic battle. Not exactly what we were going for, but I suppose it works xP. The name might not fit well with the song at first, but I think that after hearing the song in full listen, I find that the name fits more, since as I said to Fro, this song represents all the emotions (sadness, anger, revenge, hatred, etc...) all brewed into one teardrop. Weird concept, I know...

According to Erik, this has 15-note chords in it :P. But yes, we didn't incorporate as much of the orchestra as we could have, and didn't cover the bass part of the spectrum as much either. Thanks for the suggestion, and obviously thanks for the great review!

Awesome use of quotes

===============
Score: 9 / 10
Summary: Awesome use of quotes
Review: Moar quotes.

This was awesome. I liked the quote in the intro, that you could hear later on in the song as well. It fit in well, and it made the song less repetitive.

Great beat, great music, great melody, and great use of the voice for vocals. A tad repetitive, but the vocals fix it. Nice use of instruments as well, I liked the choices you made.

I know I said I loved the vocals, but that doesn't mean it should be the same quote all the time. You should find more and use them throughout the song as well.

ya, good advice i should have mixed it up a lil with different quotes in the middle, instead of repeating the beggining, thanks for the review!

Review: BRAIN GOES AXPLOD.

I really want to end this review with that one line, but I have to write something constructive for it to follow the rules. Bah.

This was awesome. I loved the glitching, the rough sound, and the way it never became repetitive. Some generic sounds in the rhythm section, but god damn, this was fricken AWESOME!

Thanks, I tried to avoid that bland generic industrial they have these days...

Heh, cheesy

Review: That said, it doesn't necessarily have to be a bad song.

First off, I didn't really like the instrument you used for a melody. I'm not sure what else would fit, but to me it sounded too synthetic.

This would fit straight into an 80s or 70s (not really sure when this music was popular) soap opera, with two people on a date. Yeahyeah. I like to visualize things when listening to songs.

Anyways, I'm not sure what to say. The thing that pulled it off was the instrument playing the melody. But even that grows on me after a while. Relaxing, mellow, excellent stuff, but it lacks that little something.

Hmm, I didn't notice the horn being too fake until now - thanks for pointing that out!

Funky

Score: 8 / 10
Summary: Funky
Review: I liked the song, but the sound it has really doesn't suit it.

I guess you're trying to go for a mix of synth pop and some techno-kinda thing (those genres aren't my kinda thing), and it does sound pretty fun, but the whole song sounods toned-down. All of the audio sounds like I'm standing outside of a party.

I don't really think it's really repetitive. It might be a little, but it changed around enough, and had interesting enough melodies to keep it going. The rhythms are pretty awesome, and I liked botht ethe intro and the outro.

Also, for the future, don't try to force your songs to being longer. Just go with it!

Will responds:

Thank you! I was trying to take a more out-of-the-way approach, but I think I might have taken it a bit too far. Maybe a bit more variety in the instruments would help?

Repetitive

===============
Score: 8 / 10
Summary: Repetitive
Review: Not a bad track, but the fact that it feels really repetitive really pulls the score down.

True, the song does change a lot, but it steel feels really repetitive. Maybe because of the drums, which seem to never change, that I can hear, and the song is so long that it's really easy to hear that it's repetitive. You can easily cut a lot of this song.

I liked the guitar, that was pretty well-done. The sound was still pretty boring, but it sounded experimental, relaxing, sort of ambient.

Not a good outro, and an okay, but short, intro. Fading out is baaaad.

Sawdust responds:

Alright, I'll probably remove the fade then, and give the outro a very abrasive revision.

Review: No shit.

But really, it's awesome. I loved it. I hate reviewing awesome stuff, because it's so hard, because it's hard to write bad about awesome stuff. Here goes!

Uhm...
So....
That's right!
I'm going with Fro, love the voice. Could also add what he said, some voices saying "Hardcoarh" or sumthing like that. So...

Great sound. Entertaining, not repetitive, maaaybe a little generic samples, generic sounds, but I guess that's a part of the genre.

DeejayDeeZ responds:

Hahah, thanks alot for your great review!

Well, since two persons says it fits with a male saying "hardcore" I may check how it sounds to it.

Yeah, some generic sounds and samples, but its pretty hard to do anything about it, especially in this genre.
Thanks again for your review :)

Huh, nostalgi-WHOAAA

Review: The intro really made me feel nostalgic, even though I barely played games back when I was young. I'm still young, heck!

When the bass set in, that feeling disappeared. But I really liked it. That grainy bass was awesome. So unexpected, so great!

This needs to be in a game. It does. Or a flash movie. Something like that. I love the rhythms, and the melody, both of which never really sound repetitive at all. Good job! I'm adding this to favorites. Despite it having a fade-out, which sucks.

Really entertaining!

===============
Score: 9 / 10
Summary: Really entertaining
Review: Sounds like an old love song or something. A good thing!

The intro sounds too sudden, but you've explained that, so no minus there. The outro is really poor, fading out is a cheap way to end songs. It's like a shortcut, it's easier, but not as safe, and there's a reason why it doesn't follow the road.

All in all, it's a good song. There were only a few parts that I didn't really like, where the guitar kinda crashed with the background.

Still, an all-in-all great song, that'd actually fit to some romantic-ish lyrics. Or some really, REALLY cheesy lyrics.

it is an 80's thin lizzy/gary moore song hence the cheesey/romance feel to it :p
