Eeri

This really does everything an ambient track should do, and even more.

I think what really does it for me in this piece, is the vocal samples you've used throughout the entire track. They're incomprehensible, they're not loud, and they overlap eachother to make it sound like someone in the walls are talking about you, whispering about you behind your back.

The intro builds up well, good use of the xylophone, that single tone really creeps me out. In addition you have the samples of wind, and the synth/string on top of that again. There's also the heartbeat, which strengthens the feeling of fear. I'm not too sure about the strings around 0.50. They don't seem to fit in with the overall feel of the song, and reminds me more of the music from Fable, kind of toying, not so serious, while trying to be somewhat scary.

Hello. Thanks for the kind words, the single tone of the bell was meant to be blowing in the background, simply "there". I think it worked the best, aside from the wind. The pizzicato around 0:50 is a tad weak, I admit, but I'm not sure about the not-serious-ness of them. Even if they're toying though, what do you mean by that? Are they toying with the creepy atmosphere, with you? Are they just playing around, period?

Glad you enjoyed it overall though, thank you for the review.

Review

Track's got a pretty sad feel to it, but at the same time, it is absolutely beautiful. It's very relaxed and calm, with a nice rhythmics section just to keep it going forward. It might be a bit repetitive after some time, as the piano doesn't change much and it's basically the same throughout.

Still a very nice track, gives me mixed feelings.

Quite interesting

I was, honestly, at first quite skeptical to this. It just sounded like an attempt at going for something glitched, a bit experimental, that really just sounded like noise. After a while though, I really got a feel for this track.

That said, it still is a tad random. There's a thin line when it comes to experimental tracks between something new and intersting and something that just sounds plain random and off.

I must say I like the glitchy elements a lot, like the part playing at 2.16, very glitched and randomized, which feels pretty good. The piano joining in afterwards is a really nice touch, bringing the track a bit closer to the ground. THe main synth is also really neat, with some notes that are a bit off, really works out IMO. Also love the track "reset" if I can call it that in the middle of the song.

Ending was okay, a bit of a letdown after such a nice track, but it didn't harm the song much.

Thanks Soapbubble! This is a bit more experimental than most of my other songs, but I'm glad you understood it for what it was, and could feel the groove. And yet, it is very random.

Thanks for pointing out the weak points, I realise that the synth can get quite annoying after a while, but hey, you learn something new everyday :) I'm just hoping I'll be able to improve my craft to professional standard :)

Thanks very much for the review!

Impressive

Such a long track/short album, flows very well from track to track.

You've surely been going for something experimental and new here, and I'd say you've been pretty succesful in that. Some elements of industrial and glitch, which I can enjoy most of the time. My biggest issue is the quality of the audio. It seems quite lo-fi, like the mastering hasn't been done very well. I'm not sure if that was intentional, but to me, it somewhat ruins the sound. In addition, a lot of the samples weren't of the best quality, and stuff that I've heard a lot earlier.

I also like the song titles, pretty absurd and seems like you're saying something about the modern society with this piece, which I also believe shine through in the sounds of the album at times.

sontukmusic responds:

The drum tracks had bitcrusher on for most of the album, so yes it was intentional. In fact, for some of the tracks I put bitcrusher on audio out. And all of the samples were just drum samples.

Not bad

A pretty upbeat and cheerful little dance track, but it lacks in some areas.

The synth you used alongside the beat really emphasizes that upbeat feeling I get from the track. As does the melody, it's not too complicated, and rather playful with some of the runs you've got with these rather random notes. I feel they add to the cheerful and playful feel.

However, the track just feels a bit shallow. Sure enough you have rhythmics and some ambient synths backing up, but you're giving the melodic synth a lot more room than it actually needs, and it just feels a bit naked.

Understood!
I really wish there was something concrete I could do to fill it out. I guess maybe the mids are lacking a bit too much. Mixing is so difficult!
Thanks for the review, I'm really gonna try to up the quality in the future.

Epic

And as usual, I say that in the proper meaning of the word.

This is a majestic, grand masterpiece, and I can't believe I find stuff like this on Newgrounds. I'm not sure I can give you any constructive criticism. I just can't find anything that's wrong with it. Really gives me the chills.

Some excellent dynamics, an excellent composition with a wide variety of instruments that are put together to form this absolute masterpiece.

Honestly though, I guess this is what it's like being speechless.

Nice intro

Great buildup towards the beginning of the track, sounds really good, and really gets the track started the best way possible, IMO, however, it might be going on for a bit too long before the track itself starts.

Around the 1.30 mark, when the beats hit, the track just jumps to an entirely new level. Amazing beats and a really catchy melody to it with some great synths, even backed up by some backing synths and with the rumbling bass synth.

It might be a bit repetitive for some, but this is absolutely the kind of music I'd like to hear at a club. The ending sounds somewhat odd though, very different from the track itself, and it drags out for some time.

DjAbbic responds:

Thanks for the comments. I myself thought it was rather repetitive, but I didn't want to change too much. I might change the ending, but that's not for certain. Thanks again for the review :)

Nothing new

Simple and just fine dubstep track, but I don't feel like it brings anything now to the genre at all.

It's a bit repetitive towards the end, the wobbles are pretty good and I do like the minor drops. It's nothing too heavy, more friendly to the ear than a lot of the dubstep on NG. Nice intro building up to the track, which is most always a good thing.

The synth for the melody is pretty good, especially during the drops, love the sound with that buzz to it.

But what pulls this track down for me is that it's nothing new, and it gets rather dull towards the end.

Obsideo responds:

I have that problem a lot, I start off taking my time with a song and by the end of it I'm so sick that I tend to become lazy and just loop things, oops. My patience is growing however, so I don't think this will be as much of a problem in my future songs. Thank you for the review!

Okay

First off, I don't really think this fits very well under industrial.

It's not a bad track, but it's somewhat dull to listen to, especially considering the drums are the same. Throughout the entire track. And it just got on my nerves.

The synths aren't bad, though the electric guitar-sounding synth you used for the main melody during some part wasn't the best for the track. It also sounds like the entire track is a bit too loud, as I get some minor interference on it, some noise in the back.

The bass synth is also very repetitive, which also gets really annoying after a while. The ending, lastly, I don't like. it's a simple fade-out with no real ending to the track.

Not bad

I'm not entirely sure about this piece, but it's certainly technically quite good.

First thing I noticed was your excellent use of dynamics, combined with the instruments used, and the symphonies. Obviously labeled as a classic track, but it's influenced by some newer fast-paced style with a dark feel over it. At least that's the feel I got from it. Even the lighter part sounds eerie.

It does, however, sound a bit messy at times, and somewhat out of tune. It seems like you just tried to put too much into the track and it somewhat backlashed.

ErlendHL responds:

Thank you for the review! Yeah might be something a little different from classic music. I could sounds messy because of the long piano sample. Like playing a song with many notes with the right pedal down all the time. I'm not good at finding decent samples nor editing them...

I like it when people call me bro.
